Edwin M Galan, MSN, MA, FNP-C Edwin Galan is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas School of Nursing. He also serves as the Associate Administrator and Director of Clinical Services for KU Health Partners' nurse-managed center Silver City Health Center. This faculty practice sight operates under the leadership of the School of Nursing and is currently the only nurse-managed center in the state of Kansas. Mr. Galan brings a diverse background of experiences in varied acute care hospital clinical and leadership roles, including retiring from active duty uniformed service of over 21 years. These included U.S. Navy Nurse Corps operational assignments in three continents, national Emergency Preparedness/Disaster Response and regional program management in the U.S. Public Health Service. Rachel Barkley, MS, RD, LD Mrs. Barkley received a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Dietetics at the University of Missouri, Columbia, and certification as a Registered Dietitian in 1976. She continued studies in Human Nutrition at the University of Missouri, Columbia, and was awarded a Master of Science degree in 1979. Currently Mrs. Barkley is pursuing a doctoral degree in Therapeutic Science at the Kansas University Medical Center, Department of Occupational Therapy Education. In May 2008, Mrs. Barkley was honored by the KU School of Allied Health with the Stata Norton Distinguished Teaching Award. In addition to working in higher education, Mrs. Barkley has had professional positions working as a Public Health Nutritionist for the Missouri Division of Health with the Special Supplemental Feeding Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) throughout the state of Missouri and as a Clinical Dietitian at Cox Medical Center in Springfield, MO. |

Melinda Krautmann, MS, BSN, RN In 2002 Melinda Krautmann came to Kansas as a Care Coordinator at the Assessment Center of Saint Luke's South Hospital in Overland Park. Ms. Krautmann also opened her private business where she provides patient advocacy, health coaching, self-care, and English-Spanish translation in health care settings. Ms. Krautmann developed and currently implements a bilingual (English and Spanish) Healthy Lifestyles program at Bethel Neighborhood Center in Kansas City, KS. She has taught "Populations" for KU School of Nursing, and is a patient educator for Silver City Health Center teaching diabetes self-management education and smoking cessation classes; and provides leadership with culturally and literacy appropriate patient education. Ms. Krautmann coordinates community outreach activities for KU Health Partners, Inc. and KU family practice resident physicians. |

JoAnn Peterson, MSN, ARNP, FNP-C, WHNP-C A clinical instructor at the KU School of Nursing, JoAnn Peterson, MSN, provides clinical instruction to graduate students in the nurse practitioner program. She also is a family nurse practitioner at Silver City Health Center, a primary care and multidisciplinary health care clinic managed by KU Health Partners, Inc. Peterson's clinical interests are in primary care across the lifespan, diabetes mellitus and the primary care of the medically underserved. This past year she developed and implemented a comprehensive, multidisciplinary diabetic foot care clinic. She has participated in various state and local initiatives addressing health care access and continues to participate in programs that provide care to medically underserved communities. |

Monica Scheibmeir, BSN, MSN, PhD, ARNP Dr. Scheibmeir joined the faculty in 1999 after completing her dissertation. Dr. Scheibmeir brings with her 20 years of experience as a family nurse practitioner. She has worked in out-patient clinics in rural and urban setting performing primary and urgent care to patients of all ages. Dr. Scheibmeir is actively involved in the family nurse practitioner program at KU, educating students both in the classroom and in the clinical setting. Along with her active practice and teaching schedule, Dr. Scheibmeir has been developing a program of research that focuses on maternal smoking. Since 1997, Dr. Scheibmeir has been actively engaged in research with this population. She just concluded an NIH-funded study that examined the coping strategies of low-income pregnant women attempting smoking cessation. Her current study is pilot testing the use of the Quit Key device to assist pregnant women with smoking cessation. |

Lisa Van Hoose, PT, MS Lisa Van Hoose, MSPT, has practiced physical therapy since 1996, after having graduated from the University of Central Arkansas. She is currently completing a PhD in Rehabilitation Science at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Ms. Van Hoose is full-time faculty member in the Physical Therapy Department at the University of Kansas Medical Center with board certification in wound care and lymphedema. |
